The classic outdoor spare key solution, and still the most practical answer to being locked out. A hollow rock with a sliding key tray underneath, weighted and textured so it reads as genuine stone from a normal viewing distance.

Five styles are available: a small grey stone, a speckled grey, a red sandstone, a mossy granite and a large river rock. The right choice depends entirely on your yard. Match the finish to the stone already present on your property, and never place it alone on open ground. Two or three real rocks around it do more for concealment than the moulding itself.

The larger styles hold a full keyring; the smaller suit a single key.

Keep it away from the front door and off the obvious path. The doormat, the porch step and the plant pot beside the entrance are the first places anyone checks, and a rock sitting in that zone attracts exactly the attention you are trying to avoid. A side bed or a rear corner of the property is far better.
